Dr. Alan C. S. Shonubi

Alan Shonubi obtained his LL.B degree from Makerere University, Kampala in 1981.  He also holds a Post Graduate Diploma in legal practice from the Law Development Centre (LDC). 

Mr. Shonubi worked in two law firms thereafter including Shomade and Co. Solicitors in Lagos, Nigeria where he was employed in 1985.  In 1986, he was enrolled as an advocate of the High Court of Uganda and all subordinate courts thereto. 

Mr. Shonubi was a founding partner of the firm in 1987 and worked with Uganda Co-operative Bank as Senior Legal Officer between 1988 and 1990.  He also worked with Sun International Insurance (formerly J. H. Minet) from 1985 - 1988.  He has attended an International Development Law Institute Course on Privatisation issues and methods, and Privatisation conferences in Johannesburg , South Africa organised by Business Africa Magazine.

Mr. Shonubi is widely and highly experienced in a broad range of corporate and commercial matters. He has advised and/or acted for numerous local and international clients comprising of corporate entities, foreign law firms, international agencies and individuals regarding diverse issues (contentious and non contentious) including, banking, capital markets, carriage of goods, energy law, finance, investment law, mining and telecommunications law.

Mr. Shonubi is also particularly experienced in commercial arbitration (international and domestic) and has represented a major international client at an ICC tribunal based in London, England.  The Cairo Regional Centre for Commercial Arbitration has recognised his contribution to this field, and has appointed him an accredited arbitrator.

Mr. Shonubi was in 2007 recognized by the University of Nkumba and awarded an honorary doctorate for his contribution to the development of commercial law in the country. Alan has also consistently featured in Band 1 of the Chambers Global Publication among the top legal individuals in Uganda.

Mr. Shonubi, is an active community member and is a member of the Rotary Club of Kampala East of which he is a Past President, and holds two Paul Harris Fellow honours one of which was an honorary one from the Rotary Club of Cleveland Ohio.

Alan is an active member of the International Bar Association, the East African Law Society of which he is the current President into his second term, and Uganda Law Society where he served as Vice President for two consecutive terms.
